BBC visit Dunrunnin Rehoming Kennels to film a pilot feature!

img_5707-768x1024We had another exciting day at the kennels today as the BBC visited to do some filming for a pilot feature about the rise in the popularity of Greyhounds as family pets! Lucy Ferrier came down from Head Office to help us out, and we all had a whale of a time being interviewed about why we love Greyhounds so much ๐Ÿ™‚

At first we were all a little bit apprehensive about being filmed on camera, but the interviewer’s enthusiasm was infectious and once we got started, he had trouble stopping us! As you can imagine, we all had a LOT to say about how fabulous our greyhounds are, and the poor interviewer had to work hard to keep to his timetable!

Here’s a quick shot of Stella being interviewed in our Tea Hut (Stella is one of our regular volunteers that comes three or four mornings a week to help Karen out with the early shift in the wee hours of the morning, before going off to her day job – what a legend!)

Stella had as all in stitches when asked what her favorite type of Greyhound is – to which she replied “the Tall, dark and handsome ones!” (Due to the number of black dogs in the rehoming system nationwide, the majority of the dogs in our kennels are tall dark and handsome!)img_5713-300x225

Luckily, the weather was on our side, and the BBC cameraman was able to capture some lovely footage of our hounds enjoying a walk in the beautiful woods that adjoin our Kennels. The bluebells are now out in full force and so the woods look really magical at the moment! Here’s a quick picture I took of Becca walking Mikey and Igley – don’t all three of them look simply gorgeous! Little Igley has recently been chosen by her forever family, but our lovely Mikey (the white and black hound) is still waiting for his lucky day – perhaps he could be your chosen one?!

Happy St. George’s Day from the Dunrunnin hounds!

image27We’ve been celebrating St. George’s Day at the kennels today, and are feeling rather patriotic! Jo has been telling the greyhounds all about the story of St. George sleighing the dragon, and the hounds were very excited to learn that a beautiful white Greyhound featured alongside a red fire-breathing dragon on the Coat of Arms of Henry VIII of England (1509-1547), in the first part of his reign. All we can say is that the Tudor’s obviously had excellent taste in sight hounds ๐Ÿ˜‰
We don’t have any pure white hounds at the kennels at the moment, nor any called George, but we do have an absolute stunner called King, who is fawn in colour and really does have all the grace and majesty that is so typical of this amazing breed!

King is a super-friendly hound, but is an absolute whopper, with the strength of ten lions ๐Ÿ˜‰ For this reason he would make an excellent companion for someone with the physical ability to handle a large male. Luckily King is young and eager to please so will be a pleasure for his new family to train and spend time with. You can view King’s full profile on our View our Hounds page, and we’d love to hear from you if you could offer King, or one of his friends a loving home this St. George’s Day!

Dunrunnin has its first grandchild!

image25-767x1024image28-878x1024A super cute boy arrived at DunRunnin Kennels this weekend, and there was just something about him that made us smile – he reminded us of one of our other greyhounds – DeeDee, so we did a bit of digging into their breeding, and low and behold Mikey is DeeDee’s son! If you compare the markings on their faces you can’t help but notice the family resemblance! They both have a white blaze between their eyes with a black splodge in the middle – how fantastic is that?! In our book that makes Mikey DunRunninโ€™s first grandchild! If you would like to visit Mikey or DeeDee, or both of these fabulous dogs, why not come down to DunRunnin Kennels near Brands Hatch – they’d really love to meet you! Who knows, there may even be a forever family out there wanting to rehome them as a pair!

Dunrunnin Superstars model for the RGT’s 2015 Christmas Cards!

image7-1024x768It was a very proud day for Karen and her team of volunteers today, as four of our gorgeous greyhounds – Tom, King, Peaches and Mousie – had their 15 minutes of fame at a photographer’s studio in Richmond! Our soon to be famous four, were working hard posing for the RGT’s 2015 Christmas Cards! They all had a fab time prancing around in front of the cameras and are now back at the ranch demanding 5* treatment to match their new found celebrity! We can’t share the pictures until the cards are released, so in the meantime, here’s a team photo of the stars having a well deserved break in the gorgeous park! These beauties are looking for their forever homes, so come on good people, come and meet them at DunRunnin kennels in Brands Hatch!

Happy Easter from Mousie-kins and all the Dunrunnin greyhounds!

image5-862x1024image6-999x1024This week the Dunrunnin team has been getting ready for Easter! We’ve been sprucing up the kennels, and are hoping to have lots of visitors and prospective families popping in to see us over the four day bank holiday! Our lovely little blue girly Mousie has been bouncing around the kennels wearing her bunny ears, so we thought we’d share some pictures with you! Doesn’t she make a fantastic Easter Bunny?! Mousie’s room mate Ely wasn’t too keen on Mousie getting all the attention so the cheeky monkey tried to steal the bunny ears for himself! Both Mousie and Ely are still patiently waiting for their forever homes, so why not check out their profiles on our ‘Meet Our Hounds’ page, where you’ll find details of their paw-sonalities!

Happy Easter to you all! Your continued support for this terrific breed is very much appreciated by Karen, her team, and the RGT!

Little Miss Lolly the Lurcher!

image-168x300This is Lolly, she is 18 months old, and is in a foster home at present. Lolly was found wandering the streets, and so we’re now assisting another RGT Branch to find Lolly her forever home. Unfortunately, Lolly is nervous of other dogs, doesn’t like cats and at some point has been, we suspect, mis-treated. Lolly would need lots of tender loving care and patience, but we know the right family will be out there somewhere.

She’s good with children and Lolly loves to play with her toys. Ideally Lolly would benefit from someone who would be at home with her most of the time. She is spayed and fully vaccinated. If you can help this deserving girly, please get it touch, we’d love to hear from you.

A new home for Baby Bear!

img_39051Last week we welcomed our very first Greyhound puppy to our rehoming kennels, and we fell in love with her the moment she arrived! We often have young dogs that come to us at DunRunnin, but as this gorgeous little girly was only half the size of her litter-mates, she was ‘retired’ before her racing career had even begun! We nicknamed the cheeky little miss “Baby Bear”, and we’re pleased to report that we’ve already found her a home with a lovely family that are committed to furthering her training and development. We know that Baby Bear’s going to have a fab life in her new home, and so we thought we’d share some pictures of the little cutie, that were taken just before she left us! Isn’t she adorable?!

We currently have about 40 full-sized and equally adorable “puppies” looking for their forever homes, and the good news is that these dogs won’t need quite as much attention or training that little Baby Bear will! So why not come down to our kennels to meet some of them, or have a look at their profiles on our “Meet our Hounds” page? All of these Greyhounds are just as deserving of finding their forever homes as little Baby Bear was, so please get in touch if you have a loving home to offer!

50 years of Greys, and 50 Shades of Greyhound!

periodic_society_happy_birthday_card_a57_50_shades_of_greyhoundWe couldn’t resist a quick post this week to mark the happening of two important ‘fifty’ themed events that have taken place in the past 7 days!

Firstly, it was our Branch Manager’s 50th Birthday on 12th Feb! (I may well have been sacked for sharing this fact, by the time this post reaches your screens, so – Happy 50th Karen!!!) And secondly, this week saw the release of the hotly anticipated chick flick ’50 Shades of Grey’. Well I can’t say I’ll be hot-‘pawing’ it down to the pictures to see the film, but I did love these cheeky Greyhound-themed takes on the famous novel!
The Birthday Card to the left, which sadly I didn’t purchase in time for Karen’s 50th – doh! is available from the Periodic Society (a card company that do some fab dog-themed items), while the fantastic ‘Mr Greyhound Will See You Now’ print is credited to DanScape Photography. I absolutely love, love, love these images, and I’m pretty sure that the Gorgeous Greyhound in the second print will be more swoon-worthy than his Silver Screen counterpart! (No offence intended Jamie Dornan, if you happen to be a regular follower of the DunRunnin blog ๐Ÿ˜‰

RGT Chief Executive visits Dunrunnin Rehoming Kennels

img_3720-1024x768It was an exciting day for the Dunrunnin hounds and volunteers today, as we were visited by the new Chief Executive of the Retired Greyhound Trust – Lisa Morris-Tomkins, who amazed us all by managing to visit our branch in the very first week of her new role! After being shown around our kennels and meeting all of our resident hounds, we spent time discussing Lisa’s ideas on how to build on the RGT’s amazing success over the past forty years, during which period this terrific charity has found loving homes for a staggering 70,000 Greyhounds! If you would like to be part of the RGT’s furture rehoming success stories, why not consider giving a loving home to one of our residents profiled on our “Meet Our Hounds” page, or maybe you’d like to join our workforce of volunteers profiled on our “Meet Our Volunteers” page. Either way we’d love you to become part of the community of Dunrunnin Friends and Families!
