WALKING ALL OVER THE WORLD

Sunday 19th June is a very special day for greyhounds, lurchers and their owners who will all be stepping out to celebrate the 7th, but newly renamed, Great Global Greyhound Walk. Hounds and humans will be walking simultaneously at parks, woods, beaches, heaths and at the odd Stately Home right across the world. Numerous walks have already been confirmed is places as far afield as Canada and New Zealand as well as London, Beddgelert in Wales, Edinburgh, Cornwall and Yorkshire. More locations are being added day by day and we hope to have a walk taking place in as many countries as possible.

John Homer and Karen Farley would like to welcome all sight hound owners in the North Kent and Medway area to join the walk which commences at 10.00am, the meeting point is the Visitor Centre, Riverside Country Park, Lower Rainham Road, Gillingham, Kent ME7 2XH. The walk is for all and is suitable for buggies and wheelchairs. About one hour long, there will also be a short walk for those less able or whose dog is elderly. All breeds of dog are welcome although they will not be counted for the GGGW; entry is by sponsorship or donation on the day. All those taking part will receive a rosette and proceeds are to go to RGT Brands Hatch and other Greyhound charities. There are toilet and refreshment facilities on site. The Retired Greyhound Trust Road Show will be attending. Please feel free to stay longer and enjoy the Parks facilities and take part in more informal walks.

Please join us for a really fun day and the opportunity meet up with some old friends and to raise funds for a cause that is close to all of our hearts?

In 2015, the previously named Great British Greyhound Walk, had 4605 dogs attending walks all over the world and the success of these walks prompted our new name, the Great Global Greyhound Walk. Can we reach the magic 5000 sighthounds this year? – we hope so.

There is no need to book just download a sponsorship form, raise what you can and turn up.

If you need any further information, please call John on 01634 403914 or 07930 636186 or via email at rgtmedwaysupport@aol.com or Karen on 07760 440142.

Dunrunnin Greyhounds Donate Blood to the Pet Blood Bank!

12184279_437936413072161_3352332666420548464_o-768x934We’re so proud of our amazing Greyhounds who donated blood to the Pet Blood Bank on Tuesday. Launched in 2007, Pet Blood Bank UK is the only charity that provides a canine blood bank service for all veterinary practitioners across the UK. The charity aims to advance animal health and welfare and to relieve suffering by providing quick and convenient access to blood. What a fantastic cause!

Here’s a picture of Kuro, immediately after giving blood – as you can see, the hounds weren’t at all worried by the process, and you really wouldn’t know that they’d given blood except for their trendy shaved necks, which were soon covered up by the fab bright red neckerchiefs that they were given by the charity πŸ™‚ So well done to the 20 hounds plus Sky & Jones (former Dunrunnin dogs) who gave blood during the session. I’m sure their efforts will be much appreciated by the pets that will receive their life saving donation!

DunRunnin Hounds Represent the Retired Greyhound Trust at Discover Dogs!

12132588_434172516781884_7417606510204360393_oWe couldn’t be more proud of our boys Biggles & Billy who spent the day representing the RGT at the “Discover Dogs” event at London’s ExCel Centre. Despite having led sheltered lives so far, our boys took on the challenge of hoards of visitors and hundreds of other breeds with waggy tails and their usual happy dispositions! They were fantastic ambassadors for the breed, and we’re pleased to report that they didn’t try to eat any of the other exhibitors πŸ™‚ Thanks also to our fab volunteers Bev, Alex, Lesley and John who gave up their Sunday to take the chaps out for the day!

The feedback from the event was really fantastic and we received lots interest in Biggles and Billy as a result of their calm behaviour and affectionate demeanour! If you’d like to visit Biggles & Billy, or are interested in volunteering at our rehoming kennels near Brands Hatch, then why not get in touch?!

A Big Thank You for a Beautiful Picture!

We’re very excited to share a fantastic piece of art work with you, from one of our young DunRunnin supporters, Lydia, aged 6. Lydia and her family adopted one of our beautiful black hounds called Hats back in April, and Lydia (knowing how much we’d miss our gorgeous boy) drew us this beautiful picture of Hats, having fun in the sun, so that we’d have a permanent reminder of him! Lydia’s picture of Hats has taken pride of place in our DunRunnin Tea Hut, so if you would like to come and view this masterpiece in person, and meet some of our other hounds who are looking for their forever homes, then why not come and see us at DunRunnin rehoming Kennels near Brands Hatch in Kent πŸ™‚

Dunrunnin Hounds steal the show at Windmill Fete at Stelling Minnis!

image14-300x225A big thank you to our volunteers Lesley, Bev and Alex who went to Windmill Fete this weekend at Stelling Minnis with our handsome hounds Tom & Keano!

Lesley ran a bric a brack stall to raise funds for Dunrunnin Rehoming Kennels, while Bev, Alex & the boys entered the dog show!

We’re pleased to report that Tom won ‘Best Condition Dog in Show’ and then came second in ‘Best in Show’! Meanwhile Keano wowed the crowd with his dancing in front of the rock band!

Dunrunnin hounds chosen to attend the RGT’s Ruby Ball!

11170350_925235494206421_259787289912528973_n1It was another proud day for Karen and her team of volunteers as four DunRunnin hounds were chosen to attend the Retired Greyhound Trust’s 40th Anniversary celebrations, held at London’s Grand Conaught Rooms.

More than 350 RGT volunteers, supporters and industry patrons attended the black tie event, which was hosted by TV presenter Gyles Brandreth, and raised thousands of pounds to help fund the charity’s work to find loving homes for retired greyhounds.

Our greys (Tom, Zico, Buddy & Izzak) did a fantastic job of meeting and greeting guests as they arrived for an evening of entertainment, and we were thrilled to discover that our gorgeous boy Tom was the hound featured on the front of the auction booklet used on the night! Tom is still looking for his forever family, so if someone out there is interested in adopting a Greyhound/ Superstar then we’d love to hear from you!

You’d be forgiven for hardly recognising Becca, Donna, Karen, Stella, Bev & Alex out of their usual kennel clothes – don’t they scrub up nicely?!
